Wayward Cortes Island felines receive much needed helping hand

Abandoned cats, feral cats, and those whose owners can no longer look after them all get help at Cortes Island's Cat Rescue organization.

It began 10 years ago and is staffed entirely by volunteers and funded by donations. Over that time, the organization has helped more than 200 animals, helping to provide medical care, finding them new homes and more.

CKTZ News spoke with Cortes Island Cat Rescue founding coordinator, Samantha Statton, to find out about the services provided, how animals are cared for and released for adoption, and how the organization works closely with the local society for the prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCA):
