‘Vote Housing’ is a national non-partisan campaign designed to engage and mobilize Canadians to pledge to Vote Housing in the upcoming federal election. Marika Albert, Policy Director for the B.C. Non-profit Housing Association (BCNPHA), one of the organizations behind the campaign, says their goal is “...to ensure all political parties, support making bold investments in affordable housing and ending homelessness.”
Over the past 18 months, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed deep inequalities in Canadian society. For the first time in years, housing has become a national issue. “My colleagues at the federal level,...who have been doing this work much longer than me, have said they're actually quite shocked that we're really talking about affordable housing in the federal election, which is something we often hear at the provincial level, but having it at the federal election or at the federal level really is a significant progress,” says Albert.
The ‘Vote Housing’ campaign encourages voters “...to meet with candidates to ask them about what their commitment is, their personal commitment is to affordable housing.” And, of course, vote for affordable housing.
