The Community Radio Fund of Canada produces a new weekly radio series called Viewpoints, a 30 minute news magazine aired on 30 radio stations across Canada. Viewpoints provides an overview of what’s happening across the country, thanks to some 20 radio correspondents working for the Local Journalism Initiative.
On this fifth edition of Viewpoints:
Extreme weather and flooding are hitting cities and communities all across Canada. New Brunswick citizens are calling for Ottawa to follow through on its pledge to introduce the Just Transition Act. In Ottawa, hate-motivated crimes have increased by nearly 44 percent in 2021 according to the Ottawa Police Service. A troubling trend. The Shawville Lions Country Jamboree returns this summer, after a two year absence. City officials are relieved. While some people choose to live on their boats, others do so because they just can’t seem to find a place to stay. In BC, the Gorge Island Marine Resort is working to fill that gap. And a century-old theatre slowly comes back to life as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
With our journalists Caleb Nickerson, Ed Halverson, David-Gordon Koch, Meara Belanger and Kate Maddigan. Producer and host Boris Chassagne. Viewpoints is produced by the Community Radio Fund of Canada.
