Six Nations Public Works presented a transportation study to the community last week that revealed that the community favours, or may need, two types of transit in future.

The transit study, which began in October 2022, looked to establish if a transit system was needed in the community as well for travelling to near by communities, such as Brantford and Hamilton. The study also looked at when and how often people would use a transit system plus where people would travel to when using it.

There was also a number of other considerations such as affordability and funding opportunities.

Dillion Consulting Transit Planner Dennis Kar and Six Nations administrative support staff presented the findings.

Results of the survey indicated that approximately 57 per cent of the respondents said they would use the transit system four days or less per week, while 43 per cent said they would use it five days a week.

Of all the transit options looked at, the preliminary study indicated that for Six Nations an on demand and a fixed route service were the most applicable options.

Next steps include making adjustments based on feedback and then presenting to the elected council. However, no date was given as too when that might happen.

The study is available for viewing on the Six Nations Elected Council Facebook page.
