TransporAction Pontiac, a non-profit public transit service for the region, is currently seeking volunteers to shore up its roster of drivers.

While the organization has several busses and adapted vehicles, they also have around 55 volunteers that use their personal vehicles to take clients to medical appointments or other necessary errands for a small fee.

Executive Director Sylvie Bertrand gave a presentation on the subject at the MRC Pontiac public council meeting on August 16, noting that there are certain communities with more need than others. She said that they were most in need of drivers in the Municipality of Pontiac, but could also use more in Shawville, Bristol, Portage-du-Fort, Campbell's Bay, Chapeau and Sheenboro.

Bertrand explained that while the drivers are volunteer, they are reimbursed for their mileage. She said that many of their volunteers are retirees, and they do their best to accommodate everyone's availability and driving preferences.
