The puck is standing on a red painted line which goes on to depict a half circle, filling the image. As well, a faint reflection of a rink advertisement can be seen along the top border of the image.

The Ontario Junior Hockey League has ruled that Former Wellington Dukes Coach and GM Derek Smith didn't technically break any rules with a flurry of outgoing trades just before quitting his job with Wellington and joining the archrival Trenton Golden Hawks.

Just before Derek Smith left his job as Coach and GM of the OJHL’s Wellington Dukes, he made a flurry of trades which left Wellington with just 5 rostered players. Those trades included one with arch-rival Trenton Golden hawks that some have called lopsided. Smith then of joined those same Trenton Golden Hawks as their Head Coach and General Manager.

OJHL Commissioner Marty Savoy says the league has investigated all the trades involving the Wellington Dukes with the departure of their General Manager and Head Coach, and said the league found that there were no OJHL regulations violated.

Savoy did say the league will be looking to fix those rules. He says the league is going through a review of regulations when it comes to the exiting of team personnel and the timing of player transactions moving forward. It’s a circumstance that could trigger changes in multiple sports at many levels to protect themselves from scenarios like this.

Savoy’s ruling wasn’t enough for the Dukes organization. They have now filed an official request with the league to investigate tampering accusations against both Smith and the Golden Hawks.
