The Township of Centre Wellington is seeking public input on four different design options for the reconstruction of St. David Street North, from St. Andrew Street to Edinburgh Avenue.
Colin Baker, managing director of infrastructure services for the Township of Centre Wellington, said this has been on the townships radar for a number of years, and it's a council initiative that’s approved through their budget.
“We’re planning for our reconstruction in 2023, a full reconstruction, replacing the underground infrastructure, watermains, sewers, and then when we do that we also want to replace the road, the sidewalks, and so we really get an opportunity as we get into the design process to kind of reimagine, or reshape St. David Street,” said Baker.
Baker said they haven’t quite pinned down when the reconstruction would start in 2023, but noted that it would be a full construction season.
“The township has budgeted $2.97 million for the construction in 2023, that amount excludes any grant funding that we might receive through the Ministry of Transportation's Connecting Links program, but that’s the current budget for the project as it stands today,” Baker said.
He said the township will be applying for the grant funding this fall.
“We’ve utilized the grant in the past with the St. David Street bridge [and] that was significantly funded through the Connecting Links program as well, and really that’s the objective here is [to] really inform our design, and so we can refine those cost estimates as well as finalize our design,” Baker said.
He said that the township wants to work with their business partners to ensure that they’re maintaining access to people’s businesses at all times during construction.
Baker said members of the public can see the four design options at www.connectcw.ca, which is currently open and will be kept open into April, then township staff will report back to council with a summary of the feedback in either late spring or early summer.
