This fall, Loyalist Township will be finalizing its new strategic plan for 2024-2027.

The current plan has been in place since 2019. The strategic plan is put in place to help guide staff within the township  It sets out priorities, objectives, and initiatives. According to staff, the plan helps reduce reactive decision making and encourages proactive planning. Mayor Jim Hegadorn explains why it's an important document for the township.

"It helps provide vision so that the township can succeed. Without a vision, and direction, it's really hard to succeed," said Hegadorn.

Staff are now looking back on the current plan to account for all the achievements, as well as any initiatives or objectives that will need to be brought forward into the next plan. Hegadorn explains how this helps measure success.

"That's how we can actually quantify success; is how much we've achieved through the strategic plan," said Hegadorn.

The strategic plan is a public document that can be viewed on the township website. By sharing documents, and taking part in multiple forms of public engagement, the township looks to uphold transparency; Hegadorn notes the importance.

"[It] improves trust and balance expectations on both sides when there's a public document that everyone knows what to expect," said Hegadorn.

Priorities, objectives and initiatives for the next strategic plan are among items that staff are asking the public about at five town hall meetings before the end of this month. Dates, times, and locations of the meetings can be found on the township website.
