The Town of Sutton has announced the details of the 2021 budget and there are few changes compared to the 2020 financial year. There was no discussion of COVID-19 impacting the towns budgets.
The towns total revenue in 2020 was $11.6 million and is forecasted to total just over $12 million in 2021.
The largest portion of the town’s budget was allocated to the transportation sector.
“The key objective is to minimize increases in taxes,” stated Lynda Graham, Town of Sutton councillor.
Residential taxes will increase by 0.8 per cent, industrial taxes will remain stable, and agricultural tax will see a decrease of 2.3 per cent.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced increased spending in some sectors. Public security services will see an increased tax rate.
“There was increased spending for public security, which unfortunately, will continue in 2021. For example, the extra costs of cleaning, supplies of masks and gloves,” explained Graham.
The Town of Sutton anticipates collecting $6.2 million worth of grants this year.
