The City of Toronto has begun its full-fledged efforts to get children ages five to 11 vaccinated against COVID-19 with the opening of five immunization clinics, starting on Nov. 25.

“The more than 31,000 appointments booked for Toronto kids is a great start," said Toronto Mayor John Tory. "I am so proud to see our city rallying behind these young community health heroes to get them vaccinated as soon as possible. Thanks to our Team Toronto Kids COVID-19 vaccination plan, there are now so many options to book vaccination appointments for our five- to 11-year-olds. I continue to encourage people to get vaccinated as soon as possible.”

The city is ensuring that each clinic will be kid-friendly, with each child getting a superhero vaccine clinic passport — while children and parents wait in the clinics, there will be colouring sheets, activities and a superhero selfie station, according to a recent press release.

The 31,000 booked appointments are out of the 49,000 appointments made available this week so far.

Toronto is currently running five children vaccination clinics in the following locations:
•       The Metro Toronto Convention Centre
•       Cloverdale Mall
•       Scarborough Town Centre
•       Mitchell Field Community Centre
•       Woodbine Mall

In addition, school-based mobile clinics are also starting across Toronto this week. Parents, caregivers and students will receive clinic information directly from their school when a clinic is available to them.

The Pfizer vaccine has been approved by Toronto Public Health to be administered to children, ages five to 11.

Vaccinating children is one of the prominent initaitives that the city is pushing in order to reach its goal of fully vaccinating 90 per cent of eligible residents this year.
