The University of the Fraser Valley's President, Dr. Joanne Maclean, remains on medical leave following a medical issue in December and an acting president has stepped in.

Maclean experienced a heart issue resulting in hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital two months ago. The medical team has Maclean resting at home with minimal activity, and the professional leave is expected to last several months.

In Maclean's absence, Dr. James Mandigo, provost and vice-president of academics, was appointed acting president and vice-chancellor on February 3rd, following board policy. Other changes have been made to the senior administrative structure: Dr. Tracy Ryder has been appointed acting provost and vice-president of academics, and Dr. Alisa Webb has been appointed acting vice-provost of academics while continuing her current role as vice-president of students.

CIVL spoke with Mandigo about Maclean's health and faculty morale during this time.
