The Surrey Art Gallery's exhibit on VideoPoetry is now open to the public.

Guest curated by Surrey-based artist Tom Konyves, Poets With a Video Camera: VideoPoetry 1980-2020 depicts video, poetry, and text to create a genre of art all its own.

The term "VideoPoetry" was officially coined in the late 1970s in Montreal, according to Konyves, where he spent time with a group known as The Vehicule Poets. Konyves spoke with CIVL on the birth of VideoPoetry, his manifesto and The Vehicule Poets. Poets With a Video Camera will feature over twenty-five works from various world-renowned video poets. Before the end of the exhibit on Dec. 11, there will be a media art symposium on Nov. 5, from noon to 5 p.m.
