International Overdose Awareness Day is held on annually on Aug. 31, and Terrace's third annual event was at George Little Park.

Different outreach organizations were gathered at the park to help raise awareness of the overdose crisis that has been at a record high for the past seven months. Since January, the province of BC has seen the highest numbers on record of deaths due to overdose.

On Thursday, everyone was welcome to attend and share personal stories and support for grief and loss of loved ones, or if seek support is needed.

Different activities were available to the public to take part in, including medicine bag making, a drumming circle, BBQ lunch, and 50/50 draw. There were additional activities like rock painting, Naloxone training, and medicine bag making. There was also an eagle fanning ceremony for anyone in need of healing.

William Morrison attended the event with his family alongside the Kermode Friendship Society. He shared his personal story with CFNR about overcoming addiction and how he is on a personal mission to share love until addicts find love for themselves.
