The Kingston School of Art (KSOA) has officially unveiled their 2023 Juried Exhibition.

The anticipated annual event opened at the Kingston School of Art Window Gallery with a reception taking place over the long weekend. The reception had a full house, showcasing 62 artworks by local artists curated by the selection committee last month.

This year marks the 6th edition of the KSOA Juried Exhibition that's proceeds go towards supporting the non-profit arts centre. KSOA provides year round art classes for people of all ages, also offering studio-based hands-on instruction and practical artistic experiences.

“Through the creation of an inclusive and supportive environment, we encourage artistic individuality and innovation, as well as cultivate an appreciation for the arts within the greater community," Maddi Andrews, executive director at the Kingston School of Art, explains. "So, really, all of the proceeds raised from the juried art exhibition go towards furthering our mission and ensuring that we can continue operating in this way.”

This year’s Selection Committee included professional artists Brian Hoad, Erika Olson and Otis Tamasauskas. Over $1,500 in prizes were awarded at the opening reception in various categories, some selected by the jurors and others by the public.

This year’s first prize winner was Olivia Coughtrey, being awarded $750 for her oil on canvas board painting titled Park at Dark. The painting that won the prize was also sold immediately after the awards ceremony.

The exhibition will be available for viewing at the Kingston School of Art Window Gallery until Oct. 28.
