Climate advocates would say the kids aren't so bad, but the federal government might disagree.

Last year, 15 young plaintiffs from across Canada filed suit against the federal government for climate inaction. The plaintiffs allege that Canada's lack of climate action is interfering with their Charter rights to life, liberty, and security of the person and equality.

However, in October 2021, a Federal Court Judge struck the plaintiffs' claim and ruled that the suit must be taken to a higher court.

Attorneys for the plaintiffs said that they will appeal the decision.

At issue was the question of justiceability, whether an issue can be heard by the court or should be left to elected politicians. Chris Tollefson, an attorney for the plaintiffs, told The PULSE that he believes climate change is an issue that is the domain of both the judiciary and the legislative branches of government.
