Cécile Archer is the oldest lady in Lac Brome at the age of 103 years — CIDI had the chance to speak with her ahead of the holidays.

She currently resides in Le Manior Lac-Brome. She has lived there for nearly 10 years after being admitted at 95. But she has spent her entire life in the Knowlton area and has five children.

"You know, I must have done something good in my life. I don't know what it is, but to deserve five good children like this," she said.

"I must have done something good sometime," she added.

Archer was an architect. She built and designed homes, which can be easily recognized because they are all pink stucco – her trademark. All but one of the homes Archer built are still currently pink.

“I would live in one and then build another one and sell the one I was in. I think I have made about seven,” said Archer.

Archer describes herself as a "happy lady." Driving her own car up until just a few years ago Archer is most proud of achieving the parking spot in the front of Le Manoir. She shared her determination with all the residents who also received front entrance parking. She is a kind and caring woman.

Archer is known in town for her life advice.

“It’s not like home, nothing is like home, but you must accept in life the changes in life and sometimes it is not easy,” said Archer.

When Archer is not giving advice, she can be found playing bridge with the other residents of the retirement home.

“If you don’t accept, you live in a rut, you see and you start disintegrating,” advised Archer, “I’m happy here.”
