Sackville's climate change advisory committee has declined to give advice on what the town should do about pet cats and their propensity to hunt wild birds. Instead, they've sent the issue back to council with another suggested expert to consult.

Two Sackville residents have made presentations to council about the impacts of free-ranging domestic cats on wild birds and neighbouring gardens, and have asked the town to consider adding cats to its animal control by-law.

In March, Town Clerk Donna Beal recommended against adding cats to the bylaw, though a gap was identified in the research on the issue, that of a specialist in wild birds. After referring the issue to the climate change committee, town staff will now invite wildlife expert Adam Cheeseman from Nature NB to present.
