Cortes Island's annual community Christmas dinner at the Gorge community hall has been underway for 21 years. But due to pandemic restrictions over the past two years, it had to be take out only. Organizer Izabelle Perry is looking forward to this year welcoming the public back to a sit-down traditional Christmas dinner in a festive atmosphere.
She says about 100 to 200 people attend and there's no charge, or need to rsvp, adding that a basic turkey dinner is provided, with ingredients donated by stores, while potluck items make up the rest of the feast.
Perry says volunteers are welcome to help with food prep, set up, and clean up. She says the hall will be open at 11:00 am on Christmas day, with a cozy fire set in the lounge. There will also be a pot of soup on the stove for anyone who shows up during the day.
