In an effort to enhance community through art, a Women’s Sacred Creativity Circle is now being held weekly at the Terrace Sportsplex.

Although they have experience holding "mother circles" as a registered post-partum doula, organizer Amy Bolton started the circle in an effort to create a safe space for all women to express themselves through art.

Every Monday night at 6:30 p.m. a ceremony of breathing exercises, song, and movement will open up the circle. Bolton says that starting the night this way helps women to ground themselves in an effort to open themselves to creativity and inspiration.

“...That’s the idea of the ceremony, letting go of all those judgments and stories and things that society creates where things have to be you know… the perfectionism and all that stuff and just doing what needs to happen and you never really know what gets created from that,” she said.

After the opening ceremony, art tools will be provided, including natural materials like sticks, leaves, and grass. attendees are also welcome to bring whatever materials inspire them. Bolton says that they want to enhance participants' bond with mother nature through the use of natural resources in art.

“At the root of the work that I do, I believe that we need to come back to community, we need to come back to supporting one another,” Bolton said on the program's purpose.

Each night closes out with a reflection period for attendees to share and reflect, though Bolton says there is no pressure to contribute. Drawing inspiration from other similar events they had participated in previously like mother circles and women's retreats, Bolton said the act of listening is important.

“A big part of it is embodiment, getting back into our bodies, letting go of whatever else is going on in our lives… and listen to our intuition and listen to that feminine flow of energy.”

The event is all ages, free of charge and children are welcome. Bolton will hold a creativity circle each Monday night at 6:30 p.m. until March in room 4 at the Terrace Sportsplex.
