The Terrace Nisga’a Elders Association is sending 11 members to the National Elders Gathering happening this week in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Gathering runs from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2: this is the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that the Elders have been able to attend.

The Terrace Nisga’a Elders Association is a part of the Gitlaxdax Nisga’a Terrace Society. Wednesday was the send off dinner for the Elders as they celebrated with a dinner and traditional singing and drumming from the Gitlaxdax Nisga’a Terrace Society. CFNR was on location to talk with the President Louisa Gray and the Treasurer Marlene Robinson about the event the planning and fundraising that has gone into it.

The event was the final fundraising for the trip, with a loonie auction and a traditional blanket dance. Various businesses in the community of Terrace have sponsored the fundraising efforts.
