On Monday, the Terrace city council donated the proceeds from their pancake breakfast that was held during the summer's Riverboat Days.
For the past 10 years, on the Sunday of the BC day long weekend, city council hosts a pancake breakfast fundraiser. A minimum $5 donation is asked for for a plate; attendees can also donate food to each organization.
In the past, the Coast Mountain College’s culinary program has helped with the breakfast, this year, council worked alongside the fire department to serve 276 residents their sunday morning breakfast.
Terrace Churches food bank and the Salvation Army food bank both received a cheque for $771 dollars, for total just over $1,500.
Presenting the cheques were Mayor Carol Leclerc and Coun. Dave Gordon. No representatives for the Salvation Army were able to attend but receiving for Terrace Church’s Food bank were two volunteers, Ester Brisch and Romario Marelli.
Along with raising money for a good cause, attendees also have the chance to meet and talk with council members while being served their food.
Community engagement is an important part of the fundraiser, according to Mayor Leclerc, adding that she would be surprised if the new council didn’t hold the breakfast next year.
Mayor Carol Leclerc also mentioned that with inflation, times are tough for everyone and asked that people be generous whenever possible.
