Thursday on Tantramar Report:

There’s a new restaurant opening up on Bridge Street in Sackville, featuring Kurdish cuisine. CHMA speaks with the family behind Fener’s Place, opening up next week in the former Napul’è Pizza space.

Sackville town council will soon consider whether to allow people to get around town on skateboards. A revised streets bylaw that would lift the ban on skateboards on town streets is up for first reading next week. Councillors debated the issue at their meeting on Tuesday, and could be headed for a tie vote.

Town council is also considering closing down a portion of York Street for a day in early September, to help Mount Allison University welcome new and returning students. York would be closed on Sept. 3 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., to improve parking and pedestrian access to a welcome tent set up on the Mount Allison campus.

Coun. Bill Evans apologized Tuesday evening for his use of the phrase “swapping wives” in last month’s town council meeting, which garnered considerable negative reaction on social media, and inspired a change.org petition that accumulated 122 online signatures.

There were two new travel-related cases of COVID-19 reported in Zone 1 on Wednesday. The total number of active cases in Zone 1 is now 29, by far the lion’s share of the 41 active cases in the province. Public Health also announced more exposure notifications in Moncton, Shediac, and Dieppe. The notifications are predominantly for restaurants and bars, and mostly take place from July 19 through to July 30, with a handful taking place after New Brunswick’s mandatory order ended on July 31.
