On Monday’s Tantramar Report:

Sackville town council meets tomorrow night for their monthly special council meeting.  The agenda starts with an in camera report at 6:30pm from the local RCMP. It’s the first time in a long while that the RCMP will report at a closed meeting. The decision to move police reports in camera was announced last month at council. CAO Jamie Burke said it was an operational decision that had been discussed with council at another in camera meeting.

The public agenda for Tuesday’s meeting starts at 7pm, with discussions of council’s procedures by-law, as well as the town’s workplace harassment and violence policy. Council will also discuss the purchase of road salt for the winter, and the fall pride parade.

Two Sackville residents were in court on Friday facing drug charges. Carrie Ann Sears and Colt Leblanc made their first appearance on charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking. The judge adjourned the case until October 1.

The emergency room at the Sackville memorial hospital will be closed overnight tonight. Horizon announced the additional closure last week.  The ER will close at 4pm today, and reopen at 8am on Tuesday morning, due to a shortage of physicians.  Anyone requiring urgent medical care will need to seek treatment at another hospital, and Horizon advises to call 911 for emergencies and 811 for health care enquiries, as normal.

In a single storm last Thursday, more rain fell in Sackville than in the entire month of August combined. So how did the town handle 81.6 mm of rain in a single event?  To get the low down, we hear from town engineer Dwayne Acton.
