The Six Nations Survivor’s Secretariat held a public outdoor open house celebration earlier today at their location on Fourth Line Road.

The secretariat was established in July 2021 to organize and support efforts that would uncover, document and share the truth about what happened at the Mohawk Institute during its 136 years of operation.

The Aug. 31 event in part was to give the community an update and year in review of the Secretariat’s work, thus far. Board member Charlene Bomberry shared information about what has been accomplished over the last year.

Know History, a professional historical research firm that's role has been collecting and organizing documents to support the Survivor’s Secretariat for the last nine months, also provided an update.

They also pointed out from their information that over 4,500 Indigenous students had been identified as having attended the Mohawk Institute Residential School.
