Erin Monture, CEO of Grand River Employment And Training’s (GREAT) business development opportunities, overseas the Kayanese site where the longhouse stood.
In an interview with CKRZ, Monture explained that the of $50,000 donation from the Royal Bank came as a big surprise because she thought it was going to be a much smaller donation coming from the local branch in Ohsweken.
The fundraising goal for the new longhouse is set for $1-million for their dream longhouse, but Monture said they can scale it back if needed.
She added that the loss of the longhouse is being felt beyond the boundaries of Six Nations, after she received a call from Oxford country from people saying they want to visit the rebuilt longhouse when it is completed.
