It's been a tumultous few years for Noba Anderson, director for Cortes Island at the municipal Strathcona Regional District (SRD).
Early on during her current four-year mandate, a small group of Cortes Island residents filed a petition with the Supreme Court of British Columbia seeking her removal from office. The petition accused Anderson of a financial conflict of interest.
The BC Supreme Court tossed out the petition, but an appeal process lingers on as Anderson battles the SRD for court costs and for information relating to her job, that she says has been withheld.
Anderson also believes the existing political system in rural British Columbia is not serving communities like hers.
Now in her fourth term, Anderson will not seek re-election in 2022, preferring to pass the job on to someone new.
