Structural Truss Systems Ltd. (STS) have been a family grown business creating job opportunities in Fort Macleod since 1980. On Friday, the province announced that they will be investing $1 million through the Investment and Growth Fund's (IGF) rural stream to help STS build a new production facility in Fort Macleod and create new jobs in the area.

The IGF was created in 2021 to help companies expand and create job opportunities that may have not been possible. The rural stream of the fund, which is where STS's $1 million is coming from, is meant to help areas outside of Calgary and Edmonton attract business.

Matt Jones, the Minister of Jobs, Economy and Trade, spoke in a press conference from one of STS' three production facilities in Fort Macleod, mentioning that construction of their fourth and newest facility will start "almost immediately".

According to Brent Feyter, the CEO of Structural Truss Systems Ltd., the company was started by his parents 44 years ago in Fort Macleod build roof trusses, and they continue to do that now while creating jobs along the way. Feyter said that they have "220 employees within the Town of Fort Macleod. 50% come from within the town, 50% come from outside of the town". He also mentioned that the new production facility will create up to 35 new jobs.

Fort Macleod and STS are not the only ones being looked at for funding, according to Minister Jones. He said that "we are looking at additional incentives for manufacturing and forestry, so more towns like Fort Macleod can attract more job creating investment".
