It began as a day in the snow near Baldface, and turned into a full-day snowboarding event that now, during its second edition, will go on for an entire weekend, kicking off this Saturday.

Organizer Shane Johnson said the name "Turning Man" came about during a promotional shoot at a local hill, and that the name stuck.

“We’ve now evolved that whole concept down to Salmo Ski Hill, which is just perfect venue for it,” Johnson told Kootenay Co-Op Radio.

While the main event, Saturday's competition, sold out within hours of opening up registration, Sunday will be open for the public to ride, roam around and check out offerings from leading snowboarding brands who will be showcasing new equipment, and a live DJ.

“Just because it sold out so quick for the actual competition. Sunday is demos all day long, beer garden, DJ Diggz will be coming out to spin records… I mean, it’s a true festival now. We had to do two days just because there is so much interest.”

More information can be found on the Turning Man website.
