In order to make room for the new Mills Memorial Hospital construction, the old Sleeping Beauty Medical Clinic is being demolished.

Originally built in 1961, the building located on Tetrault Street has served many different purposes for the Terrace community.

It started out as housing for nurses working in the hospital then eventually turned into a pediatric office for the Park Avenue Medical Clinic. The building has also served as a place of residence for expecting mothers and specialist doctors in the past. When construction started on the new hospital in July 2021, it became an office for the working construction company PCL.

Construction is expected to be finished by Sunday, and the Tetrault street parking lot for the hospital will be closed while the demolition and clean up is underway.

When complete, the new hospital will be more than double the size of the current facility and feature a spiritual space on the first floor for families to gather.

Sarah Artis, Northern Health project liaison, says that construction so far is on track to be complete in 2024.
