A new showdown cabinet was announced this week by the federal New Democrats, with MP for Skeena Bulkley Valley, Taylor Bachrach being appointed Transport Critic.
This is a continuation for Mr. Bachrach’s role in the NDP shadow cabinet following his swearing in for the 44th Parliament last week, also being named deputy critic for Infrastructure and Communities.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to continue working on this important file,” Bachrach said in a press release.
“I’ll be pushing to ensure that the issues that matter here in the Northwest get the national attention they deserve. From rail safety and passenger bus service to commercial tugboat regulations and restoring regional air routes, there are lots of transportation issues relevant to our region.”
Before the election was called in September, Bachrach was part of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities where he pushed for more oversight of rail safety, especially in his riding of Skeena-Bulkley Valley where rail transportation has increase exponentially over the past five years.
In his continued role Bachrach also hopes to address issues relating to emissions produced by the transportation sector across the board.
“Given the transportation sector represents one of Canada’s largest sources of climate pollution, moving rapidly to clean alternatives is also an urgent priority,” according to the press release.
