In honour of Remembrance Day, members of the Six Nations Veteran's Association took time to reflect on the past and to talk about the association's future.

First Vice Bruce Paterson, Wilby "Ike" Issac's and Harley Bomberry say they're all aging and need to recruit younger people to help with the association.

Recently, the organization has faced some financial challenges, including having to cancel their land line due to a lack of funds.

But that hasn't stopped them from volunteering in the community and engaging with veterans. They still visit other vets whose health problems prevent them from getting outside and help veterans around their homes.

The three veterans also spoke with CKTZ about some of the difficulties they experienced after they returned home from military service.

Paterson and Bomberry both explained how they received disparaging comments from strangers on the street or being spit on and recalled some disrespectful incidents they experienced upon returning the "real world" after being overseas. But the three veterans also shared some happy memories from their time serving.

With age slowly reducing their numbers and impeding their health the Six Nations Veterans' Association team members are happy they have some reliable volunteers who always show up to help when needed.
