The Moment 4 Life Colour Run took place on Thursday at the blue track behind the Gaylord Powless Arena. Over 200 people gathered at the blue track in Ohsweken where the sun was out, music was playing, frisbees and bubbles were flying in the air. And the Six Nations Police dog even made an appearance.
The Moment 4 Life Colour Run is fairly new on Six Nations Reservation. The last Moment 4 Life Colour Run was back in September of 2019 before Covid restrictions. This was the first year back since the restrictions. On Six Nations, the Colour run is a family friendly evening of music, free giveaways, information booths for services provided for health and wellness on Six Nations followed by a run or walk around the Blue Track behind the Gaylord Powless Arena in support of mental health and suicide prevention.
Many other organizations were also at the event, the Six Nations police being one of them. The Six Nations Police also posted a video via social media where Six Nations Police representatives are in a video montage holding a piece of paper, all with the same message -- “#youmatter”. The video ended with Six Nations Chief of Police Darren Jamieson saying “I just want to let you know, you matter”. Many other organizations were also supporting the same message using the words #youmatter.
Six Nations Health Services life promotions coordinator Alri Harrison who was at the event said “we're gathered here in awareness of suicide/suicide prevention to try and help remove the stigma and open the conversations to know that your not alone and many people have struggles, challenges and battles. Just know that ¨(through) your support, we have a lot of community organizations here that are talking about their services about they offer in the community, and just to know that were here and your loved and the world is a better place with you in it”.
