Six Nations is organizing support services for the community following the murder of a Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer last week.
Const. Grzegorz (Greg) Pierzchala was shot and killed while responding to a vehicle in the ditch at Indian Line and Concession 14, in proximity to the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (MCFN), on Dec. 27, 2022. Pierzchala was 28 years old and worked at the Haldimand County OPP Detachment.
Two suspects, 30-year-old Brandi Stewart-Sperry of Hamilton, and 25-year-old Randall McKenzie of Kingston, have been charged with the first degree murder and remain in custody.
Mark Hill, Six Nations Elected Chief, was "heartbroken" to learn of Pierzchala's death.
"I was heartbroken to hear of this tragic incident as a result of a senseless act of violence, and of a young life taken so soon in the line of duty," he said in a recent press release, sending condolences, thoughts, and prayers to Pierchala's loved ones and the entire OPP family on behalf of Six Nations.
Hill also reached out to MCFN Chief Stacy LaForme offering assistance of support.
This week, members of the Six Nations Crisis Team will be at the MCFN Community Centre on Jan. 5 from 2-5 p.m. to assist anyone needing wellness support. Elders and Knowledge Keepers will also be in attendance.
A private funeral service for Pierzchala is scheduled for Wednesday Jan. 4 and begins at 11 a.m. The service can be viewed on OPP livestream social media platforms including Youtube, Twitter and Facebook.
A public in person broadcast of the funeral will also be held at the Caledonia Lions Hall, in Caledonia.
