The Shawville Lions Country Jamboree is back for another year, with dozens of campers set to converge on Armstrong Heritage Farm just outside of town as things got underway Thursday evening. This year marks the 10th year that the Lions have been organizing the event, after taking it on from previous organizers.
Lions President Ed Walsh said that the lineup is a mix of talent from both sides of the Ottawa Valley and as usual, an open mic night on Thursday for aspiring up and comers.
On opening night, more than 100 campers and RVs were already parked throughout the sizable grounds. Walsh said that this is their second event since the pandemic, and though their numbers were down last year, they’re hoping to see a bit of a rebound. He said that a bump in registrations from new attendees gave him hope that they would hit their goal of 150 trailers.
As the year's largest fundraiser for the Lions, Walsh explained that their funds are distributed throughout the community in a number of ways, from helping families in need to boosting local development projects.
