Senator Marilou McPhedran has brought forward the Can't Buy My Silence Act  earlier this month which she has been working on for many years.

The senator began working on the act long before recent scandals erupted, including those at Hockey Canada.

The act would cause any organization receiving federal government funding, whether within the public service or a private entity receiving money, to lose their funding if they use non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to cover up misconduct.

McPhedran describes hearing stories from staffers within the government and in non-governmental organizations about abusive or discriminatory behaviour over the years which is why she became determined to change that situation.
