Selkirk College received a $5,000 donation from the Grant Thornton office in Castlegar, the audit, tax and accounting firm. The money will be used to support Indigenous students at the college through Selkirk's Giving Day Fund.

Andrew Jupp, manager of Advancement and Alumni Relations at Selkirk College says, “quite often Indigenous students face higher costs of following their educational dreams.”

Many of Selkirk's indigenous students relocate to the area to attend post-secondary. This money will be used as an emergency fund: it’s available to Indigenous students facing financial difficulties.

“It’s important to support all areas of the college and this is an area we felt we can make a valuable difference,” said Ron Anderson, who presented the cheque on behalf of Grant Thornton.

“The college has always been a valuable part of my life,” he added.
