Sackville town council voted unanimously last night to ask Canadian National Railway Company (CN) to stop using glyphosate in the vegetation control they conduct along their rail lines.

Coun. Sabine Dietz pointed out at a meeting Monday night that the freight operator uses the controversial herbicide in vegetation control along its tracks.

"It is actually glyphosate that's going to be straight along the track," said Dietz. "I think in this day and age with everything that we know about glyphosate, despite the federal health agency still not accepting or acknowledging the risks around that, we as a town should stand up and write to CN to please not use glyphosate within our town boundaries."

Dietz’s motion was passed unanimously without discussion.
