This Saturday and Sunday Nanaimoites are encouraged to put household items and furniture on the curb for the 20th year of the Reuse Rendezvous.

The annual "city-wide swap meet" encourages residents to reuse unwanted items instead of taking them to the landfill.

Taaj Daliran, Manager of Sanitation, Recycling & Public Works, not only helps run the program, he has found some items that he has needed over the years.

“The program is designed to have furniture, toys, small appliances, sporting goods, tools, and other usable items that we usually have in our houses,” said Daliran. “I personally got a free shovel for my mini-farm that I'm building at my home.”

Nanaimo’s Mayor Leonard Krog will also be participating in the event this year.

“I'm at the stage where I need to be putting stuff out, not bringing stuff home. My wife has made it very clear to me that if I bring more stuff home, then I might be put out,” he said.

“I certainly hope people will take advantage of this as I say a great community event opportunity to do the right thing for all of us and do the right thing for the planet.”

If you would like to participate in the reuse rendezvous this weekend simply put a “FREE” tag on your unwanted items and place them at the curb in front of your home on the weekend of July 22 and 23.
