The Relay For Life is combining social distancing and Facebook live for their fundraising activities this year.

Executive Chair for the Mount Allison chapter Sam Croft says that fundraising efforts have already surpassed last year’s total by over $3,000, and the week of events is only just beginning. Croft set the goal for this year at $20,000, and is optimistic the Relay For Life teams and the Mount Allison community will help reach that goal.

“We’re really close,” says Croft. “I’m thinking by the time we get to Sunday, we will be at $20,000 which is really good.”

The events, both virtual and in-person with COVID-19 protocols in place, continue for the rest of this week and finish up on Sunday. The actual relay part of the Relay For Life will look a little different, but Croft hopes folks will get into the spirit of it.

“A big part of the relay is still walking and doing laps…We’re doing a walking rally on the Saturday before the event, so the Saturday the 13th…We talked to the town of Sackville, and they set a perimeter for us, so we have a map of our perimeter. We’re going to have volunteers at each corner to lead the participants, and everyone will be masked.”

Events are all available on Facebook, and they will all be livestreamed.
