Region of Queens council has never looked or sounded so good.

Last week's council meeting highlighted the new microphones, speakers and three large video screens that have been installed in council chambers.

Before the new equipment was installed anyone watching council meetings in the room or online struggled to hear what was being said.

Mayor Darlene Norman says since the COVID-19 pandemic residents have expected the ability to follow council proceedings online.

“Finally, we are getting to the point where, whether you are there or whether you are home, you will be able to view the council meetings, easily,” said Norman.

The new system was installed last month by Ivan’s Audio Video at a cost of just shy of $50,000.

Norman says the installation isn’t quite finished as video for the last council meeting was provided by a single smart phone.

A new video camera which will automatically spin to face whoever is speaking has been ordered but didn’t arrive in time for the last meeting.

She expects the complete system to be running before summer.

Region of Queens council meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.
