In the winter months, the RCMP performs "Operation Cold Start", a movement to help stop vehicle thefts, which rise much higher due to people leaving their cars unattended, unlocked, and running to warm it up in the cold.

Sgt. Mark Osedowski, RCMP Supervisor of Auto Theft Units in Alberta, says that the initiative is important, and the only way the word can be spread is by word of mouth, and by ensuring you protect your property by not falling into any bad habits.

Osedowski also says the best thing you can do to prevent your vehicle from being taken away by a thief is to stay with your vehicle as it warms up.

More information on how you can partake in "Operation Cold Start" can be found here.
