Unfortunately the province has fallen into its third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health officials have confirmed that this wave of the pandemic is fuelled by the corona virus variants. It is also being pinpointed to the younger population and spring break.
Although the province is reported approximately 1000 cases a day Brome Lake is lucky to currently have 0 active cases. Out of the 21 municipalities in the health region of Pommeraie there are only 5 listed to have “5 or less” active cases. However, some local business owners are nervous about being shut down once again with the rising case count.
“I just re-hired more staff and my restaurant is open at minimal capacity, but I really fear closing again and I think we are headed in that direction,” said Nicholas Allan, local restaurant owner.
Individuals 70 years of age and older are now eligible to get the vaccine. However, this is only for the first dose and there are currently no promises for the second doses within the recommended 28 days. Health officials are saying the wait between doses could be up to 4 months.
The provincial government has also stated that individuals that have already recovered from COVID-19 may only need to receive one dose of the vaccine.
Although vaccines are available for the eligible age groups some are finding it either difficult to book an appointment or they are completely full. One 94 year old citizen mentioned he is booked for his vaccination at the end of April because that is all that was available in our region. It has been a common occurrence that some elderly people are nervous to travel to Montreal to get vaccinated.
5 of the provinces regions may see more strict restrictions in the coming days.
