All citizens over the age of 85 are allowed to schedule appointments to be vaccinated against COVID-19 starting today. This marks the beginning of the province wide vaccination campaign for the general public. These seniors will begin to get vaccinated starting next week.

Last month, residents of long term care homes (CHSLD) were vaccinated. Premier Francois Legault made the announcement that half of the CHSLD residents have been inoculated with the Moderna vaccine and the remaining half will be finished this week. This includes the Le Manoir and Excelsoin, the two retirement homes in Lac Brome. Vaccinations for these residents began Jan. 3.

For all eligible citizens, appointments can be made on the Clic Santé website. But when booking an appointment, some information may be confusing. Santé Estrie states there are nine Local Service Network (LSN) locations offering the shots, but through further navigation of the form, there appear to be only five choices for vaccination centres in the region. It is possible the remaining four locations are not ready for this service. To add to the confusion, when booking an appointment on Clic Santé, there are 18 location options within 100 km of Lac Brome. It is advised to be careful when booking because citizens will be asked for their identification at the vaccine site, and addresses in the correct health region will be checked.

The closest location for seniors will be in Cowansville but the first appointment currently available is March 19. Following this date, there are only two other dates available to be vaccinated.

Appointments for the second dose of the vaccination will be scheduled on site once the first dose is administered.

Some citizens are feeling a bit of relief with the vaccine rollout starting for the general public. After this phase is complete, it is unknown who will be eligible next.

The Quebec government also released a video campaign explaining why one should get vaccinated. The video campaign is only available in French.

The province remains concerned about spring break and potential case resurgence across Quebec.

“Next week is March break. I have to say it worries us,” stated Premier Legault.
