The Quadra Island Emergency Program (QIEP) is having a disaster preparedness expo on May 14, and residents from the surrounding islands are invited.

QIEP is an emergency volunteer organization functioning under the SRD's emergency program.  It works to assist residents in the event of emergencies, and help neighbourhoods prepare in order to be more resilient in the event of a disaster.

Judy Hagen has been working on disaster preparedness on Quadra Island for 15 years. She says the event will attract anyone who wants to learn how to be better prepared for a disaster.  On Quadra, Cortes, and Reid Islands, disasters may include wildfire or earthquakes.

Participants can shop for preparedness supplies, connect with organizations involved in disaster preparedness and response, and learn how to be better prepared for a disaster.

PreparedBC's Emergency Preparedness week is May 1 to 7 this year.

The Quadra Island Disaster Preparedness Expo is Saturday, May 14th, from 11 to 3 pm at the Quadra Island Community Centre.
