Last Thursday, Prince Edward County Committee of the Whole approved of a plan to submit an expression of interest to potentially acquire the former Queen Elizabeth School property in Picton.
Proposed plans for the 4.5 acre site include the development of affordable-attainable housing. Currently, municipalities rank 9th in precedence as potential purchasers when a school board has surplus lands to sell.
Ameliasburgh Coun. Andreas Bolik advised that the county should offload some of its excess owned-infrastructure, such as the Picton Town Hall, in order to fund this potential acquisition and other local housing initiatives.
