New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs said at a news conference that a protocol to assist Quebecers who are victims of road accidents will be put in place.

Last weekend, two travellers from Terrebonne who were on their way to the Islands hit a moose on the road in the middle of the night, thankfully they were not harmed, but their vehicle was deemed undrivable.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer on scene reportedly told them they were not allowed to drive them to Moncton, 95 kilometers away, due to Covid-19 virus prevention protocols.

Premier Higgs recalled that the Quebecers were finally able to reach their destination by boarding the tow truck, despite the measures in place, and added that this is a lesson for his government, which will ensure that such a situation does not happen again.

The treatment of the two Quebecers by the authorities in New Brunswick was the subject of a rather robust exchange in the National Assembly on Wednesday, while the Islands' deputy, Joël Arseneau, used it as an example to illustrate the dangers of the current access conditions to the archipelago.
