David Ellingsen is presenting his latest work "Falling Boundaries" at the Old School House Gallery opening this weekend on July 29.
"Falling Boundaries" depicts collages of historical imagery of colonial deforestation and Ellingsen's photos of the present day destruction left behind.
"We've seen the loss of one of the great primary forests of the world here in the Pacific Northwest, BC and Washington and Oregon over the past one hundred years. So I wanted to speak directly to that last century."
"It was just what was done and it was the norm. But I really think that sort of construct shouldn't last any longer. It's just been so utterly destructive to the natural world that it really needs to be looked at seriously."
Ellingsen grew up on Cortes Island, and after a career in commercial photography, decided to break into the art world with projects focused on climate, biodiversity and the forest.
