Peterborough Pride, the yearly celebration of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
The first Peterborough Pride was started by Trent University and Fleming College students in 2003, which is why it takes place in September.
“We wouldn’t want to have it in June with everybody else because a big chunk of the community would not be able to participate,” says Lambert.

“The Pride Committee only organizes a couple of events and the rest is done by the community,” says Rick Lambert, a member of the Peterborough Pride organizing committee Sept. 15 to Sept. 24.
The largest event of Peterborough Pride Week is the Pride Parade taking place on Saturday, September 23rd. The parade begins with a gathering in front of City Hall at 1:30 p.m., and the parade will start moving through downtown Peterborough around 2 p.m. The parade will travel down George Street and end at Millennium Park.
