Northern cities are not commonly revered for their walkability or reliable transit systems.

In this fifteen minute long interview, University of Northern British Columbia acting chair of the environmental planning department, Dr. Mark Groulx, discusses some of the major factors that have gone into both the origin and perpetuation of personal vehicle dependency in cities such as Prince George, British Columbia.

Factors discussed include Prince George's dependency on the natural resources industry as a primary source of economic income, the original design methods that went into the construction of cities such as Prince George, as well as a brief comparison between other Northern and/or rural cities' plans to increase economic development in other sectors that allow for more integrated overall design and accessibility.
