Prince Edward County Council approved of over $1.2 million dollars’ worth of heavy trucks to serve the county on Tuesday.

The sum included two new winter implemented tandem dump trucks and a new fire pumper-tanker truck, which are slated to be delivered at the end of 2023 for the purposes of replacing aging units.

South Marysburgh Coun. John Hirsch remarked on the high over-budgeted costs of these replacement units which are drawing from the municipality’s fleet reserves at an alarming rate. CAO Marcia Wallace responded that the county, while nearing the end of its current procurement cycle, will be drawing from the capital sustainability reserve and from surplus 2021 provincial COVID-19 recovery funding to deal with depleted fleet reserves. Ameliasburgh Coun. Janice Maynard then stressed the importance of accurate budgeting for the next cycle because of its importance in raising adequate funds.
